30 April 2014: National Space Centre has a vacancy for a Groundstation Operations  Management Trainee to join our team.

This position will best suit a motivated, bright individual with a background in mechanical engineering and an interest in progressing to management level.  Applications to jobs@nationalspacecentre.eu before 16th May 2014.

The successful candidate will work with the Chief Technical Officer within the Engineering Department, with a view to managing day to day operations after an initial training period.  It is envisaged that the successful candidate  will have eventual responsibility for management of and reporting in a range of areas including:

  • Scheduling maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting on technical systems including satellite antennas, server equipment,  UPS and diesel generators.
  • Management, design, implementation and documentation of systems, procedures and processes in conjunction with CTO.
  • Day to day facility management.
  • Ensuring day to day smooth running of technical functions.
  • Management of 24×7 on-call Rota and participation in Emergency interventions.

Ideal Qualifications Required

  • Level 7 or 8 in Engineering: Consideration will be given to suitable candidates with qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Networks Engineering or Facilities Management.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 2 years work experience.
  • Basic understanding of Electrical Power Systems is  an advantage.
  • Cisco CCNA, similar certification or related experience is an additional advantage.

Other skill and Qualities. Candidates must demonstrate:

  • An ability to self motivate and remain calm under pressure.
  • An ablity to work with colleagues and deal with clients and contracters with confidence.
  • Have an interest in learning and a willingness to learn on the job.
  • Excellent office IT skills with at minimum basic CAD skills.
  • Good communication skills, a flexible and positive approach to work and the ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
  • Own transport is essential.

Training will consist of external Management training and formal and informal on the job learning.
