POSITION SUMMARY
This is a full time permanent position (9am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday with some time flexibility available and reqiured) subject to an initial 6 month trial period.
The Groundstation Assistant is an entry level position which will entail on-the-job learning.
- This position requires availability to participate in a 24/7 duty roster, during which time journey to site will not take longer than 1hr, should an intervention be required.
- Occasional work is also required during maintenance windows, outside of normal working hours.
This position is based at Elfordstown Earthstation, Midleton, Co Cork. OWN TRANSPORT IS ESSENTIAL.
Duties & Responsibilities
The position reports to the Operations Manager and thereafter to CEO. Duties will include:
- Participation in day to day aspects of gateway operations and site maintenance
- Provision of technical support to Operations Manager
- Assisting in building/commissioning and testing of new Antenna installations
- Positioning, installation and assembly/dismantling of mechanical antenna equipment, which will include motors, gearboxes, pedestals, stocks etc
- Performance and documentation of of routine, unplanned and preventative maintenance procedures on ground stations
- Diagnose and determination cause of faults in mechanical and electrical systems
- Assist with IT Support and ongoing surveillance for IP network, satellite gateway earth stations and RF network
- In-house & 3rd party hardware & software support
- Escalation and emergency response participation in a 24 x 7 x 365 environment
Requirements: Skills/Experience
- 3rd level or equivalent technical qualification in Systems/Technology Engineering, Mechanical CAD, Electrical or Civil Engineering
- Basic IT skills, e.g. understanding of of IP network configuration and local server setup
- Knowledge of VM Ware, CISCO network systems, IT systems an advantage
- Knowledge of telecommunications or satellite systems an advantage
- Problem solving skills and attention to detail essential, along with a talent and passion for practical subjects and activities and a desire to learn and develop these skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, a proactive, flexible and positive approach to work as part of a small team and the ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
