Irish startup, LocateMe Ltd has today been announced as the European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC) 2015 Ireland Region Winners and will represent Ireland in Berlin on 20 October where they will compete for the title of Overall Winner of ESNC 2015 and a cash prize of €20,000.
Established in 2004, ESNC is an international technology competition for innovation in the field of satellite navigation. The competition is backed by the European Comission and the European Space Agency. The Ireland Region Prize is sponsored by National Space Centre Ltd and is now in it’s third year.
LocateMe’s winning entry is an app based solution, 112GPS which provides the Emergency Services with accurate caller location coordinates for calls made from a mobile phone. Using the 112GPS app, when a call is made to 112 the users GPS coordinates, along with medical data and ICE Contacts (In Case of Emergency Contacts) are transmitted securely to the Emergency Services.
NSC Chief Technology Officer Bruce Hannah congratulated the winners and said “The judging panel were very impressed with the quality of entry and the increased number of entries this year. 112GPS was selected as the winning entry because it presents a potentially life saving practical solution to a significant problem faced by emergency services in accurately locating callers via verbal address and from a commercial perspective it has the capacity to scale.”
Managing Director of LocateMe Ltd, Colm Murphy said “We firmly believe that our 112GPS app will save lives, but it will also save time and resources for the emergency services, thereby reducing Government expenditure.”
National Space Centre wishes the LocateMe team every success in the ESNC finals next week.
