Our Big-Dish partners, Blackrock Castle Observatory are running a competition open to all schools and students in Ireland, and need YOU to name the Big Dish!

The huge 32 metre satellite dish is starting a new life as a Deep Space Radio Telescope at Ireland’s National Space Centre.  The dish will see cosmic events such as exploding stars and storms on Jupiter… and it needs an OUT OF THIS WORLD NAME!

There are lots of great prizes for the winning entry, including lighting up the Big Dish at Science Week 2011, Space Ice Cream for your whole class, and a Star Dome visit for your school. Enter by 5 PM on Friday, 28th of October!

If you would like to learn more about the radio dish, listen to Dr Niall Smith and Colm Ryan discuss “New Uses for Old Radio Dishes” on the 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast here!
